Carolyn Ritter

Artist Statement

My paintings are intimate portraits of nature. Whether I am painting plants or animals I am intrigued by looking close up and painting intimate views larger than life. The purpose of this approach is to say slow down, look closely, there is a world of wonder right under your nose.

Carolyn Ritter is an award winning artist living in Bradenton Florida. Her work has been published in American Style Magazine, Cat Fancy, Atlanta Style and Design, and other Atlanta publications. One of her cat paintings was featured on the October 2000 cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. In 2006 her design featuring “Buddy”, a Labrador Retriever, was selected for the automobile License Plate supporting Georgia’s pet sterilization program.

During the past five years, Carolyn has exhibited in over thirty-eight juried shows taking first and second place awards, and paintings from her Rocks and Leaves series were displayed in the 2005 Street of Dreams in the north Georgia mountains at Big Canoe. A solo show of her botanicals, “Intimate Portraits of Nature”, was held at the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia in October 2006.  In September 2007, she had another solo show at CallawayGardens in Pine MountainGeorgia consisting of 64 paintings and prints. In Sarasota, she had a solo show in December of 2008 at the Comcenter in Lakewood Ranch, and another scheduled for May 2009 at the Bay Club.  Art publishers, ArtCandy Editions, displayed her work at Décor Expo Atlanta in 2007, and Omega Molding featured her work there in 2008.

Her paintings of animals are in over two- hundred veterinary hospitals, and her botanicals and landscapes hang in corporations and private collections internationally. After receiving a degree in art education from Auburn University she began teaching in schools and workshops in Washington, Florida, and Georgia while taking workshops and classes from nationally known artists. Carolyn worked as administrator of her husband’s veterinary office for ten years where she was secretly gathering ideas for her animal paintings.
