Artist Statement

           My art has no deep meaning or hidden message.  I paint what I see and like.  I enjoy the challenge of painting reflective surfaces and bold shadows and light.  I like to exaggerate my colors and give the painting an interesting painterly texture.  I enjoy painting still life, urban landscapes, and plan to add figurative pieces to my portfolio.

            Donald Murphy was born in White Plains, New York in 1974.  He moved to Florida at a young age and grew up in Port Charlotte.  Throughout his life, he has always been involved in anything artistic.  Murphy attended Manatee Community College where he received the “Outstanding Student Artist” award.  He was persuaded to attend Ringling College of Art and Design.  He graduated RCAD in 2000 with a BA in Fine Arts, majoring in illustration.  Post Ringling, Murphy was a designer for a map publishing company.  After 8 years at a desk job, he is now a full time painter and father to a beautiful new baby girl.
