JOAN LYON
My images are symbolic, derived from personal experience, imagination and dreams. The rough, imperfect and scarred surfaces of my mixed- media monotypes metaphorically reveal the fragility of both the earth and all the life on it. These works of art express my belief that only when we are able to live in a harmonious relationship with all living creatures can we truly fulfill our potential as human beings and value the paradise we have been given.
Joan Lyon was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Since 1972, she has had approximately 75 exhibits across the United States. She has been published in Human Sexuality in a World of Diversity, Art & Antiques Magazine, and College Art Association Journal. Her awards include the Dr. Everett Harrison Memorial Award and the Award of Merit from the Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum. She has received honorarium from Artlink, Inc, A.R.C. National Endowment for the Arts, and A.R.C. Raw Space. In 1998, she was granted a lifetime membership into the National Collage Society, Inc. Ms. Lyon has held many positions in the art community including director of the A.R.C. Gallery, Art Encounter/Outreach Programs for the Elderly, and a member of the Truman College Faculty. She can be seen in a featured nationally televised film, “Learning for a Lifetime. |
