RONN MATTIA
I have always been drawn to the vertical form. Rebirth, growth and change are central to my sculpture. They signify the upward thrust in nature. I found myself as an artist through steel – manipulating it, transforming it, sculpting it. Coming from a glass background, I was challenged to incorporate the two contrasting mediums into vertical structures. Glass is at the core of my work. It breathes new life, energy and strength into each form I create.
Ronn Mattia’s formal education began at State University of New York College where he received a B.A. in art. He later continued his studies in sculpture at the graduate level. His work is exhibited widely in galleries and private collections throughout New York and New England, including installations in New York City’s Central Park, Washington Square Park and the Lever House Gallery on Park Avenue.
